Hello! Yes, you, the lovely person reading this blog.
The computer project is complete. I say this because it was complete a few weeks ago, and I realize I never mentioned it. That is a terrible oversight, and I apologize.
I would like to show you what I ended up building. Here is a picture:
Yes, your eyes do not deceive you, that is a pastel colored pony. Are you shocked? Of course you’re not. Here are the specs on this particular computer:
CPU: AMD FX-6300 Hexacore Processor (3.5Ghz)
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte LMT-78-USB3 R2 (version 760G)
MEMORY: 24 GB DDR3 1333
STORAGE: 2 TB 7200 RPM Hitachi HDD, Internal Multi-card Reader
OPTICAL: 24x External DVD-RW/CD-RW Drive
GRAPHICS: EVGA Nvidia GeForce 1050 GTX (2 GB VRAM)
MONITOR: Sceptre 24″ 75hz Ultra-slim LED Monitor
POWER: EVGA 450w 80+ Bronze Series
CHASSIS: Thermaltake MicroATX
OS: Windows 10 Professional (64 bit)
INPUT: Topolek Wireless Keyboard & Mouse
The purple rings you see in the case are 120mm radiator fans that I just recently added to help cool the tower down somewhat. Turns out microATX cases get a little warmer than I like. Don’t let the fancy colors fool you, I got both of those for less than $17.
All of that was achieved thanks to a single $350 donation. I think I did pretty well, and this system can be expanded and upgraded for years to come. The donation came from a very sweet woman who will not be named, unless she wants to be named. I can only speak for myself, but when I donate, I don’t like it when the donation page tries to get me to post my donation on Facebook and all of that because I’m an anonymous kind of guy when it comes to that.
If you like to have your name mentioned, that’s awesome, because it would probably feel good, but I don’t “out” names unless they’re cool with it. Suffice to say, though, she, uh, she’s a wonderful person, and I just love her to pieces, and would love her regardless of the donation.
That said, now I don’t have to worry about the only window I have to the outside world shutting down, or the only avenue to pay bills, contact physicians, and deal with debt collectors being closed off. It’s amazing how integral to our lives computers have become. When I was a kid, the only computer I had was a pocket calculator that I used to spell out “boobs” over and over again.
Uh, for science.
Anyway, so now you’re all up to date, and I apologize for the oversight. Thank you, anonymous donor who made this possible, and also thank you to other sweet person who spoke with me recently and made me realize I had forgotten to let everyone know what happened! I’m glad you’re here, too. 🙂
So, with all of that said, I will now get back to sobbing uncontrollably watching reruns of “WKRP in Cincinnati.”
