And Yet In The End…

And Yet In The End…

You know, I consider myself an advocate of communism (lowercase ‘c’), and anarchy (lowercase ‘a’), but at the end of the day, I just want people to be fed, clothed, sheltered, loved, and left alone by those who would do them harm. Why the fuck that has to involve 500 steps for various political parties, I just can’t suss out beyond the observation that power corrupts. Imagine what we get, then, when an already corrupt person takes power. That is, of course, a moot exercise, because we don’t have to imagine it, we have a history replete with examples, and a current President who is greed and corruption at its most base.
Obama had his faults, G.W. his, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, theirs, but I do believe that they wanted to be noble, to be better human beings, and I believe they wanted to make the country a better place. I don’t agree with most of their methods, but I do earnestly believe the drive was there. I don’t feel that with Trump at all. I’m no nationalist, I don’t swear allegiances to flags or governments, but I do believe in human beings, and work to make life better for everyone. How is there betterment in murdering people? Where is the line between caution and paranoia? Between fear and preemptive retaliation, and for a wrong never committed, but the price exacted from blood?
Donald Trump has authoritative influence, something he should never have been given. As a result, Trump is bad for this country. He’s bad for humanity. He’s bad for the planet. Humans fuck up enough when their intentions are good. How much worse are we when we know we’re acting from a position of corruption? How much worse will it be when people start doubling down on that corruption, as we see in Trump’s supporters? Have we reached a point where it’s just “fuck everyone else, I’m getting mine before it all goes to shit!” and wipe their hands of the whole mess anyway?
A Nazi, in 21st century America, gunned down Jewish worshipers in their own temple, and he did it believing the President of the United States of America would have approved, given the support Nazis and white supremacists have been receiving from the Trump Administration. As I said before, Trump might not be a white supremacist, might not be a Nazi, but he is a collaborator, and he’s willing to benefit from it at the cost of people’s lives.
20 years ago, I’d have called something like that a bit of fantasy, an alternative history where fascism took root and the people craved it rather than crushed it.
Here we are.
